Do not try to compete with the large store you will go broke!If you want to start a buisness research your market first and check out the license needed!
Sell what the fishermen use in your area!Do you also mean a baitshop or just a tackle shop?Livebait is where your money is at unless the market needs a tackle shop.I live in Indiana at this time and sold my shop as have 7 others here in Indiana because the day and age of baitshops in dwindling down!
If your area needs a good shop then start looking into a buisness for sure!Give me a hollar if u want I will be glad to assist you with info if you would like.There just is not eough space and time to explain all the basic info needed in this forum.

PS may shop was on one of the top fishing lakes and I just made a comfortable a living is all! I had 1 walmart plus 5 gas stations that carried small bait fridges at the end of my run,at first I was one of 5 baitshops in the area and I was the last to go! Good luck!
