Is it me or are fly rods not as tough and durable as they used to be?

Ive broken 2 fly rods in the space of two weeks! Ive been a fly fishermen for 58 years and never had this happen to me. I snapped the tip on my sage TCR after pulling in a small brown of around 2lbs and then i snapped the tip of my Orvis Helios doing the very same thing, only with a rainbow of about 3lbs.

My question is with all the modern materials and testing i can still manage to snap the tip of a 0 fly rod with very little pressure and at a wide angle so its not that it was only a small fraction of the rod tip taking the pressure but almost the whole tip section.

I know that its most likely me being too harsh on the rods, but my older rods never did this, ive had other sage rods bend directly under the boat i was in due to a fish running without them showing any signs of stress in the blank.

And salmon bend rods over double- a rod simply shouldn’t snap when your using 4.8lb tippet on a 6wt.

So my question to you is, have you had this happen with modern rods and in your opinion whats the toughest? as ive yet to find it!
