the length & action of a rod, would depend on where you will be fishing, as well as the size fish that you might catch
where?
That will depend on the species of fish you’re after. If it’s fresh water, 6′ to 7′ med would fit quite a few.
It all depends on were and what you are fishing..like if you are crappie fishing on a brush pile you’ll want a long pole 12-16ft.
7 ft med action
what are you fishing for?
It doesn’t matter what you’re fishing for. General knowledge of the rod is what matters. A longer rod equals a longer, more accurate cast than a shorter rod. A longer rod also gives more fighting leverage on a fish than a shorter one, meaning YOU have more control over the fish. A heavier rod can handle heavier lines and baits than a lighter one.
A good 6’6" medium-heavy action rod would be my first pick.
I have caught everything from a 4 ounce sunfish to a 50 pound Black Drum on a Falcon Lowrider of this action.
If you will be making very long cast a 7′ or 7’6" would be better. The extra length will also pick up more line during a hookset.
